Beloved Centurion teacher dies of Covid
“Her lovely smile and positive spirit were such an inspiration to everyone that knew her."
Covid-19 claimed the lives of three members of one family, one of whom was a beloved teacher at a high school in Centurion.
It was posted on Facebook that the 31-year-old physical sciences teacher, Mariska du Preez, died on Wednesday due to Covid-related causes after about a month in hospital.

Hoërskool Eldoraigne’s Facebook page stated, “she was a fresh breeze that moved through our school during the short time she had been borrowed to us.” “With her bubbling enthusiasm, sparkling personality and commitment, she crept deep into our hearts.”
The school posted there is no way to explain “this sadness, but we know there will also be comfort since she is now with our heavenly Father”.
A message read: “Learners and teachers attended a ringing of the bell ceremony in remembrance of her, this morning. Her classroom is covered with letters and flowers.
We are mourning”. Various schools and learners shared their condolences. On Hoërskool Uitsig’s Facebook page, the school wrote it was with great sadness “that we have to say goodbye to a beloved teacher, Mariska du Preez”.
“Her lovely smile and positive spirit were such an inspiration to everyone that knew her. She has left Uitsig approximately a year ago to join Eldoraigne. She will be missed by learners, colleagues and friends at Uitsig.”
Mariska’s cousin, Danelle van Heerden said on Facebook that she died after five weeks in hospital with Covid, of which four weeks were in ICU.

According to Van Heerden, Covid also claimed the lives of both Mariska’s parents on July 12 and July 24 respectively.
