Local organisation gets a helping hand

Hollywoodbets My Community Programme has pledged R3-million towards rebuilding our communities.

Thandanani Drop Inn centre received groceries and cleaning chemicals donated by Hollywoodbets My Community Programme to help them to continue serving the community on Friday.

Thabo Kgotsi from the centre said the generous donations came at a time they really needed them.

“We are facing a challenge in sustaining this much-needed feeding scheme in Mamelodi,” said Kgotsi.

The unrest and looting in Gauteng have affected the centre and many homeless people and drugs addicts who depend on its feeding scheme.

He added that the looting and vandalism of private and public shopping complexes have created food insecurities for many in the community.

“The donation will assist the centre to continue with our daily feeding programme that serves the homeless, the less fortunate and the addicts in Mamelodi,” said Kgotsi.

“Hollywood bets My Community Programme has pledged a R3-million investment towards rebuilding our communities,” said area manager Tony Phahlamohlaka.

He said the donation was part of giving back to the community through the organisation’s #HopeisPower project.

“We aim to provide immediate relief in the form of food parcels or assistance to areas in major distress, as well as providing support to businesses impacted by the other riots to help them get back on their feet,” he said.

“Despite these difficult circumstances, we have seen communities uniting to help one another in the true sense of ubuntu.”

Thandanani centre is based in Mamelodi East, section SNS and was started in 2011 and more than 30 volunteers.

Kgotsi pleaded with local businessmen to help with any donations to help keep the feeding scheme running.

Anyone who wants to help the centre can contact Thabo Kgotsi on 078 157 2417.
