Suspected car thieves nabbed at east shopping centre
During the ordeal, one suspect was shot in the upper body.
Two people were arrested for attempted theft of motor vehicle at Silver Crossing shopping centre in Silverton Thursday afternoon.
The suspects broke into a white Nissan NP200 bakkie which was parked at the shopping centre, said Silverton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Isaac Mculu.
“While they were in the process of stealing the bakkie, the mall security approached and the suspects drove away from the parking in a black VW Polo,” he said.
Mculu said the shopping centre security acted swiftly and closed all the gates leaving the suspects stranded.
“During the ordeal, one suspect was shot in the upper body by one of the security officers. Both were arrested and one is under police guard in hospital.”
A case of attempted theft of motor vehicle and attempted murder were registered at Silverton police station.
Mculu said the case of attempted murder was opened against the security officer who shot one of the suspects.
