Newly-crowned winners of sidewalk competition delight in floating trophy
"For me, it's about community involvement to keep their environment tidy."
Capital Park residents have only four months left if they want to make a mark in the annual well-maintained sidewalk competition.
The competition, which is an initiative by Caprra (Capital Park Residents and Ratepayers Association) and Real One Real Estate, presented the floating trophies for August on Friday.
The name of the monthly winners is thrown into a hat at the end of the year, where an overall winner is announced.
Hannes and Jeanette Enslin as well as Fred and Annetjie van Wyk are August winners.
The Enslin couple has been living in Myburgh Street in Capital Park for the past 31 years.
“The Moot is a great place to stay,” said Hannes.

A beautiful vine rose to cross over the security gate with golden-yellow flowers that normally bloom in September.
“I planted this vine about 30 years ago and it has become almost like a ‘photo frame’ for residents to stop in front of our yard and take a picture.
“We both love nature and it’s relaxing for me to walk around with the pruning shears to cut something that is out of place.”
They are grateful that their fellow residents can also enjoy the beauty of nature.

Donne-li Johnson, a real estate agent from Real One Real Estate, nominated the Enslin couple.
“I probably do not have the most special sidewalk, but it is always neat. We welcome the trophy with open arms.
“This is such a great initiative launched by the organisers. For me, it’s about community involvement to keep their environment tidy,” Enslin said.
Fred and Annetjie have lived in their house in Malherbe Street in Capital Park for 45 years.

“It’s a lovely environment to stay in.
“We keep an eye out for the newly crowned winner of the competition and we have always wondered how we are going to get it right to bring the trophy to our yard.
“I’m one of those residents who get in my car to go see what the winner of this month’s sidewalk looks like.”
Annetjie said that as soon as summer arrived, they would put in more effort to renovate the front yard.
“Watch out. The trophy could happily stand in front of our yard for another month.”
