Progress with repairs at Rosslyn sub-station
Some homes were still without power Tuesday, after a fire broke out at the sub-station on Monday morning.
A fire at a sub-station in Rosslyn, north of Pretoria, left several areas in Akasia, Pretoria North and Soshanguve without power on Monday.
Tshwane metro said repair teams managed to restore electricity to most of the affected areas, and good progress was made on the second day of repairs to restore electricity to the other areas still left in the dark.
“I would like to recognise the hard effort of the city of Tshwane technical teams who worked through the night and managed to restore power to the (affected) areas,” said utility services and regional operations co-ordinator MMC Phillip Nel.

Electricity was restored to The Orchards, Nkwe Estate, Rosslyn Gardens, businesses and other areas south of the R566 road.
However, some streets still affected were: Orange, Mimosa and Junie Borman, as well as all areas on the northern side of R566.
“All the outstanding areas were supplied by the burnt section of the substation. There is ongoing work happening to restore more areas today, through rerouting supply cables to available spare panels in the undamaged sections of the substation,” Nel said on Tuesday.

“For the remaining areas, we are bringing additional switchgear on-site to finalise the repair and restore power. Please be reassured that the teams are working hard to restore power to all customers as soon as possible.”
Nel said communities affected would be updated later, on the progress.
