Motorist airlifted to hospital after crashing into tree in east

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the driver of a vehicle in a critical condition and in need of medical assistance.

A 35-year-old motorist was airlifted to hospital after he was found in a critical condition following a car accident in Lynnwood on Monday afternoon.

Emer-G-Med said paramedics responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on the corner of Sussex Avenue and Struben Park Road in Lynnwood.

“On arrival on the scene, a single light motor vehicle was found to have crashed into a tree.

“The driver and only occupant, a male approximately 35 years of age, was found in a critical condition,“ the emergency service said, adding that advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise him before he was placed onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him with breathing.

“The assistance of the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter was called for the motorist and he was airlifted to a specialist facility for immediate definitive care.

“The cause of the incident and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Services investigation.”
