Wallmansthal military vehicles burn
“The 96 vehicles that were destroyed in the fire were not in use. All the working military vehicles were safely stored.”
A fire at the military’s Wallmansthal vehicle depot destroyed nearly a hundred stationary vehicles on Thursday night.
The fire, which started around 19:00, ripped through the vehicles that included Nyalas, trailers and other military equipment.
Initial reports on scene were that more than 200 military vehicles burned in the fire.

Commenting on the reports, General Mafi Mgobozi, of the Wallmansthal army base told Rekord that only 96 vehicles were destroyed in the fire.
“These vehicles were also not in use and were to be disposed of,” said Mgobozi.
“The military’s working vehicles were all stored safely in hangars at the depot.”

The Sinoville Firefighting Association were first on the scene to combat the fire.
Chairperson JP Botha said the association was alerted to the scene by members of the army base.
“We immediately dispatched members with a fire engine,” said Botha
