Vehicle theft on the rise in the Moot area
We encourage motorists in the Moot to avoid leaving their valuables in plain sight in their vehicles as such behaviour attracts criminals into committing theft out of motor vehicle
Motorists, shoppers and residents of Wonderboompoort and surrounding areas in the Moot should beware of increasing vehicle-related crimes, warn police.
This includes areas from Capital Park to Mayville in Pretoria Moot.
“We are experiencing a high number of cases of theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles in the policing precinct,” said police spokesperson Constable Zwane.
The Wonderboompoort police recently embarked on a drive at Les Marais SPAR and surroundings in the area to raise awareness regarding the vehicle-related crimes in the area.
They handed out pamphlets to encourage motorists to be always vigilant when parking their vehicles at various shopping centres and other places in the area.
“We encourage motorists to avoid leaving their valuables in plain sight in their vehicles as such behaviour attracts criminals into committing theft out of motor vehicle.
“When you lock your vehicle with a remote control systems, manually or physically double-check if all doors and boots of are properly locked before leaving your vehicle on parking bays,” Zwane said.

He said this was important to avoid various methods used by criminals to gain access into motorists’ vehicles.
Criminals sometimes generally use remote jamming devices and other methods of crimes to gain access into victims’ vehicles, he said.
“Report any suspicious activities at the police station or call the 08600 10111 Crime Stop line.”
Police said they distributed more than 245 pamphlets at the various hotspots in the area and promised that they would continue with the campaign on a weekly basis with the aim of reducing the theft of motor vehicles and the theft out of motor vehicles.
