A case of house robbery and murder is being investigated.
CPF chairperson in the area Petrus Nel said the area had seen a decrease in violent crimes these past months, until Friday and Saturday.
“In this period of less than 24 hours, we had three incidents in the area,” he said.
“From 18:00 on Friday until 02:00 Saturday morning.”
The first incident was at a tavern along Moloto Road where people were attacked by armed robbers who fired a shot.
While police were busy investigating that scene, Nel said they received a call from the community radio informing them of another incident at a rehabilitation centre.
“People there were also tied up and robbed and the centre was also robbed off TVs and other equipment,” he said.
“And then at 01:00 on Saturday morning, we got a call that shots were fired at a smallholding and the son of the victim also came to inform us that his father has been shot.”
Nel said since the beginning of the year, the area only saw petty crimes and non-violent crimes such as stock theft which was at a high.
“This night was a horror night,” he said.
“The shock for the family is heartbreaking. Seeing the loss and devastation in their eyes.
“Somebody that they loved is gone in the blink of an eye. It’s an indescribable pain and loss that the community feels.”
