Woman (45) nabbed after being on the run for several years

"In matters of weeks the suspect was traced and arrested at her home in Mamelodi where she was hiding from police."

A 45-year-old woman has been arrested by Moot police after being on the run for more than two years.

In 2018, a 28-year-old victim reported a case of theft to police after he was drugged in his flat in Gezina by a female visitor.

The victim woke up the next morning with his valuables such as laptop and cellphones stolen.

According to spokesperson of Moot police, Captain Anton Breedt, the woman was taken into custody early January 2019, and brought before the court.

“She was granted bail but failed to appear in court again. A warrant for her arrest was issued,” he said.

In May 2021, Moot detective sergeants Itumeleng Benz Tibane and Nkhesani Theron Ngobeni were investigating a case of motor vehicle theft.

During the investigation they noticed that the same modus operandi was used as in the case of 2018, where the victim in his late 50s was drugged while socialising with a woman he met at a local pub, only to wake up the following morning with his Honda Jazz stolen.

“The same name of the woman from the 2018 case came up during the investigation.

“In a matter of weeks the suspect was traced and arrested at her home in Mamelodi where she was hiding from police.

“Detectives will be looking into it to link the woman to other cases,” Breedt said.

“Pretoria Moot SAPS call on the community to be vigilant when meeting up with strangers or drinking at local pubs.

“The woman will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon,” he said.

Acting station commander for Pretoria Moot SAPS Lieutenant-Colonel Seakga William Suping applauded the officers on their good work and issued a warning to those fleeing from justice.

“Moot SAPS will use all resources to bring them to justice,” said Suping.
