Mamelodi’s ‘John Wick’ has the town on tenterhooks as bodies pile up
Mams residents on social media claim that members of the so-called Boko Haram gang are in hiding in fear of a vigilante killing its members.
Mamelodi residents have claimed on social media that a “John Wick”-like vigilante were behind a recent spree of killings in which alleged members of the dreaded Boko Haram gang were targeted.
This balaclava-wearing vigilante has been dubbed John Wick by residents who have named him after the ruthless killer in the movies of the same name, starring Keanu Reeves.
The residents did not want to be named out of fear of intimidation.
Others believed the weekly killings were as a result of a power struggle between the Boko Haram gang and a rival gang known as Bafarasai, also from Mamelodi.
Rumour has it that the fight was over control of the township.

However, in the eyes of many residents, “John Wick” has become a sort of hero.
According to social media posts by residents, Boko Haram gang members were living in fear of John Wick.
It appeared the vigilante carried out the killings by delivering a shot to the head of the victim.

The Boko Haram gang has been blamed by the community for extortion, hijackings and demanding “protection fees”.
Record has confirmed that some of the below shootings are believed to be linked to this gang:
On 30 August, two men (Thabang Aron Mahlaula and Thabo Sydney Mnisi) were shot and killed at Santorini Club, section C, Mamelodi West around 23:30. In that incident, police confirmed the gunman also shot at a state vehicle with a heavy calibre weapon suspected to be an R5 or AK47 rifle.

The second shooting happened at Silverton on September 13. In that incident, a man was found dead with several gunshot wounds.
On September 25, police confirmed the shooting of two people at Mamelodi Heights hostel in Boundary Road.
On arrival, police said a white Ford Ranger was parked inside the hostel with a flat tyre and the windscreen riddled with bullets.
Two victims were found on the scene, namely a 32-year-old who was shot on the upper body, and 33-year-old who was shot in the upper body and legs.
One of the victims died in hospital while the other is recovering.
However, police could not confirm that the killings were in connection with any gangs.
Police confirmed they were investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
This was after a man, Solomon Ntuli, was shot several times and killed, and a woman was shot twice, when four suspects armed with pistols and rifles stormed their home in Mamelodi, section G on October 10.
The police have yet to provide any comment on the matter.
