A 26-year-old Pretoria beauty queen lost out on the Miss South Africa Beauty pageant for the second time.

The pageant was hosted on Saturday in Cape Town where Kgothatso Dithebe, from Centurion, made it to the top 10.

Dithebe, unfortunately, fell out of the competition before she could proceed to the next level.

In 2019, the LLB student also entered the competition where she made it to the top five of the pageant.

When entering the competition this year, Dithebe said her life story was not always easy but, sharing it with the entire nation and trying to make a difference is what she stood for.

“I have seen how bullying and cyber-bullying are rapidly increasing in our country, which leads to a lot of suicides and mental health issues,” she wrote in her Miss SA profile.

“Being someone who was bullied, I know what that feels like. I took a different route and I want the nation to see themselves in me.

“A story of a beautiful young girl who was bullied and committed suicide because she could not take it anymore has urged me to enter Miss South Africa once again; to be loud and to ensure I spread the message across all borders.”

The beauty queen is known for challenging preconceptions of beauty through her distinct birthmark that covers one side of her face.

When entering the pageant, she said if she won she would love to meet any girl or woman who has given up on life or thought they weren’t good enough.

“I want to remind them of their worth, remind them of the power they have in them and the abundance this world has to offer,” she said.

“I would love to tell them to look at things in a different scope and be the change that’s needed – even if it’s for one person.”

Sadly, Dithebe didn’t get to see this opportunity.

The crown for Miss SA 2021 went to Kwa-Zulu Natal born Lalela Mswane (24) – a student at the University of Pretoria.

Her two runner-ups were Moratwe Masima (from Midrand) and Zimi Mabunzi from eQonce in the Eastern Cape.
