SCHOOL NEWS: Zwarrie athletes perform well

They won eight medals at the cross-country championships in Amanzimtoti.

Hoërskool Zwartkop is proud of its athletes’ achievements this season.

Mckayla van der Westhuizen broke the ASA javelin record twice a week, according to the school spokesperson, San-Mari van der Walt

“Her first effort was on September 23 during the Tuks Top 10 athletics meeting with a distance of 58m. And thereafter on 29 September at the Twizza Superschools athletics meeting at Ruimsig with a distance of 59m.

“Six Zwarries cross-country athletes also represent Gauteng North,” she said.

They won eight medals at the cross-country championships in Amanzimtoti.

“Rico Coetzer was second in the boys u.14 race and won gold for the team competition. Li-Mari Dekker was second in the girls u.17 race, with gold for the team competition. Luca de Waal was fifth in the girls u.14 race, with gold for the team competition.

“Another gold medal went to Wiepke Schoeman in the team competition and she ended fifth in the race for girls u.15. Elizma le Roux was sixth in the girls u.14 race and Francois Scheepers ended 18th in the boys u.14 race.”
