AfriForum’s Wes-Moot branch assist with crime prevention
"This once again shows that if a community join hands and support SAPS, we can make a difference in the safety of our communities."
AfriForum’s Wes-Moot neighbourhood watch, together with Hercules CPF members, Hercules police, various security companies and other role players, carried out several crime prevention operations in the area this past week.
According to the information officer of AfriForum’s Wes-Moot neighbourhood watch, Johan Liebenberg, several arrests were made for drug possession, illegal operation of shebeens and other offences, respectively.
“This once again shows that if a community join hands and support the police, we can make a difference in our communities,” he said.

Sampie Steinberg, AfriForum’s district coordinator for greater Pretoria North added that when it comes to crime prevention activities, it is critical to assist authorities.
“Planned operations are a great way to secure the safety of our community and to strengthen the relationship between security structures and residents.
“This clearly shows that neighbourhood watches and other security structures within the community need to work together to combat crime,” Steinberg said.
Chairperson for sector 4 in Hercules, Nico van Vuuren said that they have received quite a few inquiries about the number of crimes appearing on the crime stats that are usually circulated on their Facebook page on a Monday.
“It has been said that the crime stats do not reflect the right number of offences, that is completely correct.
“The crime stats provide us with information on all matters reported to the SAPS.
“All cases are not reported, so the stats indicate far fewer cases than what actually happens because not everyone reports cases,” he said.
Van Vuuren added that as CPF they would like to make an urgent and serious appeal to the community to report all crime-related matters to the SAPS.
“Only then will the crime stats received from the SAPS be able to indicate the true state of crime in our area,” Van Vuuren said.
General theft, theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles are still some of the biggest crime trends in the Daspoort, Pretoria Gardens, Hermanstad and Kameeldrift West areas.
