Fitness community saddened by killing of passionate trainer

The South African fitness fraternity, influencers and the government are deeply saddened about the untimely death of Lawrence Masinge.
Masinge, the 40-year-old fitness instructor, was shot and killed in Saulsville, Tshwane, during a live online training session on Wednesday night.
The department of sport, arts and culture head of marketing, Nnaniki Malesa, described the fitness coach as a passionate man, filled with dedication.
“We mourn Lawrence’s larger than life personality and we are at a loss for words.
“Lawrence was affectionately known as being passionate about his fitness craft. Everyone who worked with him in this regard knew that he put his heart and mind in every class he led,” Malesa said.
“He was indeed incredibly committed to changing South African lives through a physically active lifestyle and it is these qualities which made him join the I Choose 2 B Active Instructor Team.”
Malesa said Masinge started with the team on June 1, 2021 and asked to be excused from his duties on October 20.
She said he had left an indelible mark on the team.
“We would like to pass on our condolences to the Masinge family, his clients who witnessed his passing and everyone he touched with his fitness coaching business.”
Police have since launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects after the well-known fitness instructor was shot and killed in Tshwane.
According to reports, Masinge, was shot dead during a live virtual workout class around 19:20.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the murder, but could not confirm a motive at this stage.
Masondo said police were appealing to anyone who might have information that could help in the investigation or assist police in apprehending the suspects to come forward.
He said alternatively, the public could call the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
Rekord has reached out to Masinge’s family, who declined to comment on the matter.
