Perjury case after mother falsely report 3-month-old baby as missing

The police opened a case of perjury against the 28-year-old mother who falsely reported her three-month-old baby missing.

Mamelodi East police have opened a case of perjury against the 28-year-old mother who falsely reported that her three-month-old baby was missing.

According to a preliminary report, the mother had a disagreement with the baby’s father and left the child in his care before she reported their baby missing at the Mamelodi East police station.

“A team consisting of members from the Mamelodi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, SAPS Mamelodi East Detectives and Visible Policing was immediately established to trace the missing baby,” said police spokesperson Kay Makhubela.

The investigation team, however, found the baby safe and sound in his father’s care.

“No arrest has been made by the police,” said Makhubela.

The police reminded community members that reporting a false case was a criminal offence and punishable by law.
