Tshwane Covid-19 cases increase by more than 12 000

The active Covid-19 cases have increase to 20 425 from last week’s 6 697.

The Tshwane region has seen a significant increase in active Covid-19 cases.

The metro has recorded 20 425 cases from last week’s 6 697.

“New confirmed daily cases have also increased rapidly, with some reaching a high of 4 000 per day,” said Tshwane mayoral spokesperson Sipho Stuurman.

“This represents a sharp rise from last week where confirmed daily cases averaged around 1 000. “

Stuurman said the increasing number of active Covid-19 cases were an indication that the current wave was spreading quickly.

He appealed to residents to take precautions and to continue practising social distancing, wearing masks and sanitising regularly.

“Residents are encouraged to go out and get vaccinated.”

The City of Tshwane has 67 public vaccination sites.

As of November 27, 2021, the City of Tshwane had administered a total of 1 573 485 vaccines. Of these, 899 472 people have been fully vaccinated, either through the Johnson & Johnson single dose or two Pfizer doses.

The number of cases for the last five days is as follows:

– Wednesday, December 2: 2 331 new cases

– Thursday, December 3: 3 076 new cases

– Friday, December 4: 4 058 new cases

– Saturday, December 5: 3 731 new cases

– Sunday, December 6: 2 560 new cases

Stuurman also condemned the criminal attacks over the weekend that targeted a Tshwane vaccination team in Soshanguve.

“If anyone has any information on the individuals that robbed our teams of our equipment, please come forward,” he said.

“Vaccination is critical in preventing increased hospitalisation and ensuring we manage the impact of Covid-19.”
