The Ludicks win well-maintained sidewalk for 2021
"We will walk the extra mile every month so that the floating trophy remains in front of our yard."
Martin and Jannetta Ludik, of Van Heerden Street in Capital Park, have been named overall best well-maintained sidewalk winners of 2021.
All the monthly winners’ names were thrown into a hat as the newly elected DA councillor in the area, Leon Kruyshaar, picked out the winner of the year.
“As we drive around Capital Park, we see that there is a real difference since the competition came into effect.
“We will walk the extra mile every month, so that the floating trophy remains in front of our yard,” said Martin with a smile.
The Ludiks said it was a great Christmas present.
“We like to work in the garden and to keep the sidewalk clean and tidy. This creates a good impression for the rest of the residents in the area.
“It also serves as a great relaxation method for us.
“We are yet to decide whether we will plant rose trees, petunias or cycads (broodbome) in the pots.”

The initiative of the competition was launched by Capital Park Residents and Ratepayers Association (Caprra) and Real One Real Estate.
Caprra’s Michael Burt and Donne-li Johnson, a real estate agent from Real One Real Estate, presented the trophy to the Ludiks on Monday.
“There are so many residents who have become part of the initiative and are making an effort to make their sidewalks more beautiful.
“There is a tendency among the residents to maintain their plots,” said Burt.
He thanked the residents for their involvement.
“Congratulations to the winners. You make a difference in our environment.
“All the residents who were eligible this year never thought in their wildest dreams that they would receive the floating trophy, but who knows, Donne-li might stop in front of your yard next time to announce you as the monthly winner.
“Charl (Pretorius) from Talking Pots once again did not disappoint with the donation of the pots.”
