Vaccination blitz to be held in Centurion

Zwartkkops vaccination drive-thru site re-opens.

A vaccination blitz was going to be held at the Zwartkops vaccination site drive-thru as it reopened on Wednesday.

“We will be open from 9:00 to 15:00 on Wednesday and will possibly open again sometime in the New Year especially with booster jabs,” social activist Yusuf Abramjee said.

Both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccinations were expected to be available.

The Zwartkkops vaccination drive-thru site was closed in October when the number of Covid-19 infections across the country recorded a significant drop.

At least 30 000 vaccines were administered at the site before it closed its doors.

“The infection rate is increasing and vaccines are the first line of defence,” he said.

Abramjee appealed to everyone who hasn’t yet received the vaccine to get vaccinated and reminded those who had already gotten their first vaccination to get their second jab.

“Before going away on holiday, do the right thing and get the jab,” he said.

The vaccination site made headlines in October when it reached a 25 000 vaccines milestone.

“This is a milestone and I salute all the volunteers. I salute every one of you. Thank you for serving our country,” Gauteng Premier David Makhura said at the time.

On the day, all volunteers and sponsors received special awards signed by Makhura, Gauteng MEC Dr Nomathemba Mokhethi and the site’s management.

The vaccination site was launched in August and quickly became one of the Tshwane metro’s busiest thereafter.
