Tshwane Covid-19 cases increase by more than 5 000

The previous week the metro’s cases stood at 20 425 and now numbers have increased to 25 285.

Active Covid-19 cases in Tshwane have surpassed the 25 000 mark with the metro recording another weekly increase of nearly 5 000.

The most recent report indicates that active cases have increased to 25 285 as of this Sunday, December 12.

Last week Sunday, the number of active cases stood at 20 425.

“New confirmed daily cases remain on an upward trend, with some still reaching a high of 4 000 per day,” said Tshwane mayoral spokesperson Sipho Stuurman.

“The ongoing increase in the number of active Covid-19 cases remains a concern for the city and one that we are taking seriously.”

Stuurman said the metro was committed to the implementation of its Covid-19 management strategy across all regions of Tshwane.

This included setting up pop-up vaccination sites in targeted hotspot areas and conducting community education drives.

“The city has 67 public vaccination sites open and ready to assist all persons aged 12 years and older,” he said.

“Furthermore, 11 public vaccination sites are operational over weekends from 08:00 until 15:00. Vaccines are crucial in managing the severity of the current wave and are also critical in preventing an increased hospitalisation rate.”

Stuurman appealed to residents to remain cautious and continue practicing social distancing, wearing masks and sanitising regularly.

The number of new cases for the last five days is as follows:

– Wednesday, December 8: 3 010 new cases

– Thursday, December 9: 2 966 new cases

– Friday, December 10: 2 136 new cases

– Saturday, December 11: 2 899 new cases

– Sunday, December 12: 4 765 new cases
