East wife murderer gets 15 years

He stabbed his wife Gertrude Malesa in November 2019 to death after an argument in Zwavelpoort, east of Pretoria.

The Pretoria regional court has found Thabo Wilson Motloutsi (39) guilty of murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Motloutsi was sentenced to effective 15 years’ and three months imprisonment on Friday for killing his wife, according to Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.

“He stabbed his wife, Gertrude Malesa, in November 2019 to death after an argument ensued in Zwavelpoort, east of Pretoria,” Mbatsane said.

The deceased’s brother was also stabbed and wounded in the incident.

“The argument broke out after the accused got angry at his wife for coming home late from a graduation ceremony at Nellmapius. Motloutsi stabbed her in the chest and she died on the scene. Her brother was also stabbed on the upper body but managed to flee the scene.”

Mbatsane said Motloutsi later handed himself over to the police after he disappeared for a few hours.

Boschkop SAPS detective Sergeant Moses Lekgoathi was assigned to work on the case.

“The detective worked around the clock to make sure the suspect was not granted bail,” said Mbatsane.

The matter was finalised last Friday, where the accused was sentenced.

Boschkop station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abakona Sithole praised Sergeant Lekgoathi for a job well done.

Sithole said the sentence will send a strong message to perpetrators of domestic violence that “their days were numbered in our society”.
