December hero is passionate about helping fellow human beings
“He is the kind of person that is always friendly and caring. He is just a call away if anyone needs assistance or help with anything. He is never too busy to help or listen. He takes the time needed to help others.”
Prajay Ramjee (40) is December’s Centurion Hero of the month in Rekord and Westpack’s Centurion Hero competition.
He lives in Laudium and was the founder of PAJ Community Patrollers. He registered the company in 2015 after a career of 11 years as a mechanical engineer, and focus on safety and security.
Ramjee said he started as a volunteer, and later more volunteers got involved.
“We act mainly as first responders and do 24-hour vehicle patrols in our community. We respond to emergencies, fires, accidents, to any incident basically where members of the community need assistance.
“At the moment we employ five qualified responders and assist whenever we are called to respond to a scene, or whenever we encounter anyone that is in a situation where our assistance is needed.”

Ramjee said they often work in co-operation with members of the police, CPF, emergency services, and other security companies in our area.
“I realised there was a need in the community for this kind of service, and we also drive some community projects. I have been exposed to and involved with community work all my life.
“Apart from safety and security, we also rescue animals under PAJ Animal Welfare Society (Paws), and host sport and recreation events.”
Ramjee said they organise weekend hikes, football matches and stargazing evenings to protect their youth from opportunities to form negative habits.
“We also organise anti-dumping campaigns and clean-up and recycling events in the community. We even do gardening and planting projects.
“In the future, we intend to open a drug rehabilitation centre, as well as a skills development and empowerment centre which would include a place of safety for abused victims.”
He said a youth centre is also being planned to assist the youth with issues such as depression and prepare them for job interviews.
“An education trust fund will be a major part of this youth centre. This will be funded by the newly formed PAJ Community Development NPC, a company I recently registered for this purpose.”
A colleague of Ramjee, Aboo Phoulay, described him as “a leader in the community and a servant to humanity”.
“He is the kind of person that is always friendly and caring. He is just a call away if anyone needs assistance or help with anything. He is never too busy to help or listen. He takes the time needed to help others.”
Phoulay said Prajay makes the difference in the community that everyone always talks about wanting to see in communities.
“He started this organisation because of the passion that he has for his fellow human beings. That is what makes sense to him in life.
“I can only describe Prajay Ramjee as a decent and proper human being.”
