Mamelodi East police are investigating the case of child neglect after an abandoned three-month-old baby was found at a dumping site in Heatherley next to Nellmapius on Monday.
“At about 21:00, members of the police station’s client service centre were busy with their normal duties when a community member came to them carrying the baby,” said police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane.
“The baby was rushed to hospital for medical attention.”
Mamelodi East police station commander Brigadier Naidoo pleaded with residents of Mamelodi who have information that may help the police to come forward.
“We ask the community to assist us with any information regarding the baby’s mother so that we can take further action,” said Naidoo.
Any child neglect can be reported to Mamelodi East SAPS on 012 815 7079 or 08600 10 111 or the child helpline at 08000 55555.
