A grade 8 learner of HTS John Vorster, Lené Nortje has been nominated by her school to travel to Academic Achievers USA 2022 Tour.
She has been invited by Travel and Sport to join Academic Achievers in rewarding their academic excellence with a 12-day tour of the USA East Coast between September and October next year.
Whilst on this specialised tour, she will get the opportunity to attend private lectures and tours at leading universities, as well as visit iconic sites.
“I will have the opportunity to visit and attend private lectures at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, universities of Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Princeton,” she said.
Her year-end mark for grade 8 is 80% with Social Science at 90% and Mathematics at 89%.
“My life goal is to become an electrical engineer and for me to be invited on this prestige tour would open so many doors for my future goal.
“I feel honoured and proud to be selected to attend this tour, and want to use this opportunity to encourage other young girls to work hard to fulfil their dreams,” said Lené.
Her mother has taught her that hard work does pay off, and this opportunity to go to the USA has shown her just that.
“I wish to humbly ask the community to fund this tour for me and to give me this once in a lifetime experience to embrace my future dream.”
Her mother, Engela Nair, said that Lené is a hardworking, purposeful young lady with big dreams.
“We are incredibly proud of her. We grant her this wonderful opportunity to go to America, and trust the Lord to make it possible for her.”
The family took to BackaBuddy to raise funds for her tour to the USA. They hope to raise R70 000.
