More than 1 400 people were arrested during O Kae Molao police operations held simultaneously across five Gauteng districts at the weekend.
Some of the 1 360 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, house robbery, rape, possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs/dagga, theft, assault GBH and assault common among others.

Police spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, said: “SAPS arrested 40 suspects for drunk driving. From the five districts Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Sedibeng and West Rand, over 80 people were also arrested for contravention of the immigration act.”
Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela, took the provincial operation O Kae Molao to Yeoville, Hillbrow on Friday, and to Ivory Park on Saturday to assist in roadblocks, stop-and-searches, saturation of the townships/suburbs, compliance inspections at liquor outlets, second hand goods dealers and compliance to disaster management act lockdown adjusted level 1 regulations.
“Arrested suspects will appear in the various magistrates’ courts from Monday,” Muridili said.
