Two arrested as cops discover Kameeldrift drug lab

Two people were arrested when police discovered a drug lab through an intelligence-driven operation in Kameeldrift, north of Pretoria, on Wednesday.

“Drugs that include cocaine and dagga were confiscated together with suspected stolen property,” provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said.

One of those arrested was also said to have offered the police officers a bribe for them to be released.

“Both suspects were arrested and charged with manufacturing of drugs, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property and bribery,” he said.

In another incident, a man was arrested by police officers attached to the K9 unit after he was found with drugs in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg.

The drugs included heroin, mandrax and crystal-meth.

“Police received information about a man that is dealing in drugs in Eldorado Park. A search warrant was obtained and executed,” Masondo said.

Following a search of the man’s house, a variety of drugs which were reportedly ready to be sold, we found.

He was expected to appear in the Lenasia magistrate’s court soon.

In a third incident, two people were arrested in different parts of Sophiatown, also in Johannesburg, for dealing in and possession of drugs.

“Police officers from crime intelligence received information about a man that is dealing in drugs and members from K9 operationalised the information and pounced on the suspect at Sophiatown,” Masondo said.

The man was found in possession of drugs which included mandrax.

“Further information led police to another house in Sophiatown where the second suspect was arrested after he was also found with mandrax,” he said.

Meanwhile, police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela expressed his appreciation to the officers attached to the crime intelligence, K9 and other units which were involved as they continued to make inroads in arresting drug dealers and removing drugs from the streets of Gauteng.

“I am pleased with the collaboration between different units of the police and the information that we receive from the community members. We remain committed and we will continue with the fight against the scourge of drug abuse and ensure that those who sell the drugs to our community, especially to the youth, are identified and brought to book,” Mawela said.
