Lyttelton police on schools patrol duty
“High visibility patrols and interaction with learners and parents was part of the plan.”
Lyttelton police conducted back-to-school patrols on Thursday to ensure that parents dropping off their children for the first day of school were safe.
According to Lyttelton police spokesperson, Captain Dave Miller, the police members were on duty from 05:00 to make sure that no criminal activity took place at schools.
“High visibility patrols and interaction with learners and parents were part of the plan.
“We also worked together with our crime fighting partners, the CPF, and the members of the private security industry.”

Miller said the station commander thanked all those who gave up their time to ensure that no major incidents were reported.
“He (the station commander) further sends a message to all the learners in the Lyttelton policing area that we all have the same opportunities in life but what makes the difference is what we choose to do with those opportunities. Make the most of your time at school and study hard, stay away from bad influences and be safe.”
