Two arrested after shootout in Soshanguve
“Police did not back down, but continued chasing while retaliating by shooting back."
Two would-be robbers were arrested following a shootout with Akasia police holding random patrols in Soshanguve ext. 4, north of Pretoria, at the weekend.
“While on patrol, the police officers were told that two men had just tried to rob a man,” said police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mabasa.
“The officers responded swiftly and started searching for the men in the bushes. The victim pointed them out around the ext. 4 area,” she said.
Mabasa said it was while police were approaching the bushes, that the two suspects started firing at them while running away.
“Police did not back down, but continued chasing them while shooting back,” she said.
The two robbers were subsequently caught.
“A case of attempted robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm is being investigated,” Mabasa said.
Police were appealed to anyone who had further information on the perpetrators to come forward.
