Waterkloof learner named top performing overall learner in Tshwane South
Kirsten Erasmus, the top-performing overall learner in Gauteng said "the fighting spirit of the matric class is what stood out for her.”
Hoërskool Waterkloof’s Kirsten Erasmus was named top performing overall learner in Gauteng.
Waterkloof made a clean sweep at the awards ceremony on Friday, as they received three more accolades; Nadia Schmidt was called to the stage as the second-best performing learner; Waterkloof was named second top performing school with the most Bachelor passes for 2021 national senior certificate in Gauteng and yet received another prize as the third top-performing school.
Hoërskool Garsfontein was named top performing school as well as the school with the most Bachelor passes.
Die Hoërskool Menlopark was awarded second place as top-performing school.
“2021 was a very difficult year, but I approached it with an open mind and took it day-by-day,” said Erasmus.
“My feature plans are that I want to become a CA and I will study legal accounting sciences at the University of Pretoria.”
She added that the fighting spirit of the matric class stood out for her.

“In the weeks leading up to preliminary exams, we got through it together.”
The Tshwane mayor, Randall Williams, congratulated the 2021 matric class.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the 2021 matric class for achieving a 76.4% pass rate,” Williams said.
“This is up by 0.2% from the previous year. “This is particularly impressive as the 2021 class faced two consecutive years studying through the difficult impact of Covid-19. “We applaud your resilience and commitment.”

The mayor also congratulated the learners and teachers in the Tshwane South District for producing the highest national pass rate of 89.3% by a district.
“This is an excellent result. Many thanks to the teachers, school management and parents for your commitment and the support you have shown towards advancing education for our learners.

“Passing grade 12 is an important feat, as it demonstrates hard work, sacrifice and the dedication you have put in throughout the years. I have no doubt that this must be an exciting time as you ready yourselves to enter the higher education sector,” Williams said.
“This stage of your lives comes with a great degree of independence, and I would like to encourage you to make smart decisions and to continue focusing on your academics. “To the learners who did not achieve their desired results, this is not the end. There are many other available avenues to improve your results and achieve your goals.”
