Taxi passengers robbed with toy gun
"We had a group that was terrorising the community last year. They match the description of that group."
Dube police arrested three men after they allegedly robbed passengers in a taxi on Saturday with a toy gun.
The taxi was carrying passengers from Mmakaunyana to Mabopane station at around 05:35 when the incident happened, according to police spokesperson Thembi Nowathe.
Nowathe said the taxi was halted by three men who posed as passengers.
She said as the taxi driver was driving, the three men took out a firearm and ordered passengers to give them their belongings.
“The driver called the owner immediately. The police, together with the Mawikta Taxi Association, searched for suspects around Mmakaunyana. They managed to arrest all three suspects.
“They recovered a toy gun that was allegedly used to commit the robbery.”
She said police also recovered school bags, wallets, cellphones and cosmetics.

Nowathe said the suspects are aged between 15 and 20 years and are possibly linked to housebreakings and rapes during November and December last year.
“We had a group that was terrorising the community last year. They match the description of that group. We are investigating possible links.”
Nowathe said their case was postponed until January 31 for bail application.
“Because two of them are minors, aged 15 and 16, they were taken to a juvenile facility while the other suspect was taken to Kgosi Mampuru prison. They will appear in court next week for bail application.”
