Tshwane concerned over “rogue” waste services behaviour to residents’ property

“During the past few weeks, the Tshwane metro has noted a concerning increase in the number of complaints regarding unacceptable behaviour by some of our waste collection service providers.”

The Tshwane metro is set on taking action against employees in the waste collection department after they allegedly mishandled and damaged bins.

Other areas of concern for the metro were incidents of residents being solicited money by waste service providers.

Tshwane metro MMC for Environment and Agriculture Management, Katlego Mathebe, said she was also concerned over reports of the lack of courtesy to return bins close to where they had been removed.

“During the past few weeks, we have noted a concerning increase in the number of complaints regarding unacceptable behaviour by some of our waste collection service providers.”

Mathebe said the metro took the mismanagement of municipal assets and unbecoming behaviour by service providers in a serious light.

“As part of our commitment to ignite excellence and deliver quality services, we will take a firm stance against these actions and implement strict penalties.”

She said the metro was set on delivering a seamless waste collection service every day.

“We manage and co-ordinate over 300 metro-owned and contracted waste trucks with over 1 000 personnel to collect waste from more than one million collection points every week.

“While we do our utmost best to prevent any malicious damage and irresponsible behaviour, we call on residents to join hands with us as we battle these unethical actions.”

She called on anyone who witnessed such unacceptable acts to report them.

“We call on the public to report such via email at customercare@tshwane.gov.za. In the email, please provide the following details: vehicle registration, date of the incident, street name and a contact number for the complainant.”
