Man arrested for breaking into old age home
On Friday police followed up on information from the community which led them to a shack in Mooiplaas where the suspect was arrested.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly breaking into an old age home in Erasmia.
He is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court this week facing charges of housebreaking and theft.
The suspect allegedly broke into the old age home on Wednesday evening stealing a gas stove and cylinder bottle before fleeing the scene, said Erasmia police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.
“On Friday police followed up on information from the community which led them to a shack in Mooiplaas where one suspect was arrested and detained after he was found in possession of a cylinder bottle,” Moloto said.
Station commander of Erasmia SAPS Lieutenant Colonel Phindile Madonsela applauded the community and the police for their swift response.
“I encourage the local residents within my policing precinct to make use of the suggestions box which is placed in the client service centre which allows the public to put suggestions, complaints and compliments as part of the survey which intends to improve service delivery at the station,” said Madonsela.
