North family hoping and praying for son’s safe return

His cellphone was last active on Sunday - and it was when we were trying to call him.

A north of Pretoria family from The Orchards was both hopeful and praying for their 21-year-old son’s safe return following his disappearance last week.

“I keep hoping and praying that he will show up,” Ndumiso Sihlangu’s concerned father Justice said on Thursday.

He said they last saw him on Saturday morning, at around 11:00, when he left his home in extension 24 saying he was going to a meeting.

“He didn’t give much detail about the meeting before he left,” Justice said.

The concerned father said they tried calling him later that day, at around 20:00, but his son’s phone went unanswered.

“We ended up going to bed thinking that he was with friends,” Justice said.

He said that they started getting concerned on Sunday morning when they noticed Sihlangu had still not returned home.

Concerned father Justice Sihlangu is hopeful his son Ndumiso (21) will return home safely.

“We know that he’s not someone to go gallivanting,” his father said.

Justice said this was when they contacted his friends and nearby relatives to find out if he was either with them or if they had heard from him.

“I went to the police station and after 48 hours his disappearance was circulated and we continued to look for him,” he said.

Earlier in the week, Justice said he went to his son’s cellphone network provider’s head office to find out when it was last active.

“They said it was last active on Sunday – and it was when we were trying to call him,” he explained.

Akasia police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mabasa confirmed a missing person docket was opened for investigation.

“Investigations are ongoing,” she said.
