Showers expected to persist throughout Monday

“We are going to see thunderstorms popping up from the afternoon, however just 30%, while on Friday, we can expect some more tropical moisture coming in, which will bring 60 % of showers and or Thundershowers on the day,” Masizana said.

Pretoria is witnessing tropical moisture which has resulted in the sudden cloudy conditions and on and off showers on Monday.

Tshwane metro emergency service spokesperson Charles Mabaso warned motorists and residents on Monday morning to be cautious as a Yellow (L4) warning was issued by the weather service that disruptive rain was set to persist until around 17:00.

The rainy weather was expected over Gauteng, western Mpumalanga and western Bushveld of Limpopo on Monday

The SA Weather Service has also issued a warning of disruptive rain.

Meteorologist Kumsa Masizana said there was an 80% chance of rain, with a Level 4 warning for disruptive rain issued.

Masizana said residents could expect 20 to 30mm of rain.

“Due to the persistent rainfall, were are monitoring localised flooding today.”

She said no rain was expected on Tuesday.

“It’s going to be like nothing happened because no rainfall is expected.”

Tuesday and Wednesday were expected to be partly cloudy.

She said a warning for thunderstorms could be issued on Thursday.

“We are going to see a chance of 30% of thunderstorms popping in the afternoon. On Friday, we can expect some more tropical moisture coming in, which will bring a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers on the day,” Masizana said.
