What to do when you are stopped by police

Police advise residents to beware criminals in fake police uniforms and blue lights.

The Gauteng police urged motorists to be vigilant, especially at night, when stopped by police officials on the road.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson, Colonel Dimakatso Sello, this comes after several cases of criminals posing as police were opened in Gauteng.

Sello said these criminals use faked blue lights and police uniforms to pull over vehicles and then hijacked them. Police recently arrested several criminals using this modus operandi.

Sello urged residents to take note of the following when stopped by police:

– Request to see the appointment card.

– Do not stop in secluded areas but rather drive to the safest place.

– Always have emergency numbers on speed dial.

– Keep a record of the number plate of the car that stopped you.

– Request to see the identification card of the official.
