Did you know there is a difference between the terms Easter & Passover?

We will be celebrating “Paasfees”, the Afrikaans word for the Christian festival Easter, next weekend. When referring to this religious festival in English, we sometimes are confused which term to use. Easter or Passover? Mrs. T did some digging… There is a definite difference between Easter and the Christian festival called The Passover.
“The Passover is first mentioned in Exodus 12.
God had commanded the Israelites to celebrate this festival into perpetuity. Passover is a festival in solemn commemoration of God’s rescue of the Hebrew people from both the hands of the Egyptians and the land of Egypt. The Passover is also linked to the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus (known in Hebrew as Yeshua) as the perfect Lamb of God.”

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD PASSOVER? The word Passover comes from the Hebrew word pesach, which literally translates to “passing over” in reference to the Angel of God having passed over the Israelite camp, whilst killing the first-born of the Egyptians.
On the night of Jesus’ betrayal, He celebrated with His disciples, the very Passover pointing to Him. Breaking bread with them, He left them with the clear instruction, “do this in remembrance of Me.”
In our family, we value the celebration of Passover. It reminds us that we are imperfect as people, and that the blood of Jesus saved us from sin and harm. The way Jesus lived on earth also reminds us to never discriminate and to always serve and be kind towards others. Our Passover tables are always filled with family, friends or neighbours who find themselves alone over Passover weekend.
Our beliefs spill over into the running of our business. At Theron`s Meat we strive to live by the principles set by the Word of God. We follow in the footsteps of Jesus who welcomed all people with open arms, healed the sick and fed thousands. May we never forget that our business is built on the foundation of serving and uplifting our community.
