Successful drug awareness campaign held in the north
“On April 29 we will be at Reitumetse High from 08:00 to 09:00 and then followed by Hlomphanang Secondary the next week, May 6 from 12:00 to 14:00.”
A local NPO is making an effort to prevent Soshanguve youths from choosing drugs and substance abuse.
Neighbourhood Watch visited the Soshanguve Technical High School last Friday.
Co-founder and general secretary of Neighbourhood Watch, Godwin Mabusela (29), said they have been working with many NPOs including Lentswe la Baahi NPO, Social Development, the SAPS and the community at large.

Mabusela said they wanted to empower the youth by letting them know of the dangers of using drugs at an early age and fight to eradicate bullying in schools.
“We spoke about bullying, drugs and substance abuse as part of our general health and safety.
“Neighbourhood Watch seeks to solve issues such as crime, drugs and youth unemployment in the community.
“It also inspires those in need to come out and seek help, those who have not yet engaged in drugs and substance abuse to abstain and also encourages them to join sports and, arts and culture to avoid becoming victims of wrong activities,” he said.
Mabusela said the project was started late last year as drug and substance abuse was becoming an issue in the area.

“As Neighbourhood Watch, we have been able to touch as many lives as possible in and around Soshanguve, especially through our Early Intervention Programme to prevent bullying, drugs and substance abuse.
“Through engaging with learners and providing them with a platform to share their views on this topic, we realised that this intervention is very important because we have been able to identify learners who need support and assistance.
Mabusela strongly believed that this campaign brings hope for change in the lives of learners, schools and the community at large.
“The big change is yet to come as we proceed with these campaigns throughout different schools in Soshanguve,” he said.
Mabusela said they are currently still undergoing phase 1 of the programme.
“So far we have visited three of five schools, Baleseng Secondary, Rethomile Junior Secondary and Soshanguve Technical High.
“On April 29 we will be at Reitumetse High from 08:00 to 09:00 and then followed by Hlomphanang Secondary the next week, May 6 from 12:00 to 14:00.
“The second phase of the programme will be announced along with the next group of schools,” he added.
Mabusela said they are also hoping to attract sponsorships and stakeholders to help them grow and add value in Tshwane and to achieve a sustainable programme throughout the coming years.
