Cyclist critical after hit by vehicle in Daspoort

The cyclist (57) was rushed to hospital after he sustained critical head injuries.

A 57-year-old male cyclist was left with critical head injuries after he was hit by a car in the early hours of Monday.

The accident happened on Van Der Hoff Road and Tuin Street in Daspoort around 07:00, according to Ambu-Link Emergency Medical Service spokesperson Xander Loubser.

Loubser said the details of how the accident happened were not yet clear, but investigations were underway.

Upon arrival at the accident scene, the cyclist was found to be in a critical condition with head injuries.

“He was transported to a nearby hospital after receiving advanced life support care from our paramedics,” he said.

Loubser urged residents to always make sure they are visible to other road users and to wear a helmet and a reflective vest.
