Two Atteridgeville men arrested for possession of illegal firearms
The seized firearms are suspected to be property of the SAPS and the TMPD.
The Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) and other law enforcement agencies launched an operation that led to the arrest of two suspects who were found to be in possession of illegal firearms.
The operation was conducted in Atteridgeville on Sunday, June 19, in a bid to arrest criminals in possession of illegal firearms, said TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
Mahamba said the TMPD officers conducted a search at the first suspect’s property and an illegal firearm with ammunition was found.
He said the suspect was then arrested.
“The officers searched the second property and found a firearm with ammunition and an airgun. The suspect was also arrested.
“The two suspects arrested are also linked to other crimes, including murder, and we suspect that these firearms might have been used,” he said.
Mahamba said they suspected that the seized firearms were the property of the TMPD and the SAPS.
He added that investigations were underway.
Mahamba urged anyone who might have information on similar crimes to contact the SAPS or the TMPD on 012 358 7095/6.
