Hawks seize drugs worth R600k in Centurion residence
The suspect fled the scene when he noticed that law enforcement officers were onto him.
The Hawks seized drugs estimated to be worth R600 000 in street value at a residence in Wierda Park, Centurion, on Friday.
This was after they and other law enforcement agencies launched an operation after information was received about a suspected drug drop-off at a house on Montagu Street, according to Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Philani Nkwalase.
Nkwalase said the officers managed to identify the house and police surveillance immediately took place.
“Within two hours, the officers spotted a suspect driving a silver Toyota Etios with an unknown registration number.
“The suspect entered the premises and closed the gate before the authorities could get to him,” he said.
Nkwalase said the police officers approached the suspect and requested him to open the gate but he refused.
He said the suspect pretended to enter the premises to inform the owner but never came back.
The officers proceeded to jump the gate and entered the house but the suspect had already fled the scene.
“The officers began to search the premises and a variety of drugs found drugs worth approximately R600 000 in street value.
“The drugs were Mandrax, heroin and methaqualone,” he said.
Nkwalase said the Hawks seized drugs and the car for further investigation.
No arrests have been made yet.
