Two men arrested during CBD store robbery
The armed suspects, aged 26 and 67, were arrested after they stole R1 800 from a store.
Two armed men, aged 26 and 67, were arrested following an attempted store robbery in the Pretoria CBD on Tuesday evening.
Police spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise said the two tried to rob a store on the corner of Struben and Sisulu streets around 19:30.
Nkhumise said a community member who witnessed the robbery contacted the police to inform them about it.
“Police officers rushed to the scene and the swift response led to an arrest of the culprits,” he said.
He added that the suspects were found with money stolen from the cash tills amounting to R1 800.
“The suspects were also in possession of a Patel gun and an unlicensed firearm with 11 rounds of live ammunition,” Nkhumise said.
Police seized the firearms and the suspects are expected to appear before the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.
Stores in the CBD continue to be at high risk of armed robberies.
In a previous incident earlier this week, a salon was robbed at gunpoint in the CBD where the suspects robbed the staff and patrons of their cellphones and money.
The suspects were also arrested after a community member who witnessed the robbery alerted the police.
A clothing store was also robbed in the CBD and the suspects stole clothing items valued at R3 000.
The suspects were apprehended two days later after they were spotted roaming the streets of the CBD.
Pretoria Central SAPS acting station commander Colonel Maboea thanked residents for being active members of the community and helping the police fight crime.
Maboea also applauded the police officers for another successful crime prevention operation and the arrest of the robbers, two days after two other culprits were arrested for a similar robbery.
