Motorcyclist sustains only minor injuries after collision with utility vehicle

Witnesses used a jack to free him from underneath the vehicle before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

Motorcycle accidents, especially at night have become a problem on our roads.

A male motorcyclist miraculously emerged from a collision with a light utility vehicle on the corner of Main and Nellmapius roads in Irene, Centurion on Thursday morning around 07:30 with only minor injuries.

“A man in his 20s miraculously sustained only minor injuries after his motorbike collided with a utility vehicle, and he got stuck underneath the vehicle,” said CERT-SA spokesperson, Ruan Heyns.

“We want to thank the quick thinking of a passing ESB security officer and the police, who used a jack to lift the vehicle, and free the patient underneath the vehicle.

“The patient was transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition.”

He said every week an incident took place on the corner.

On Thursday evening a motorcyclist was involved in an incident in Trichardt Street.

Tshwane metro warned to place their safety first and drive responsibly.

“Motorcyclists need to be extremely cautious particularly after dark, as motorists driving at speed might not see them until the last minute.

Reflective clothing for cyclists and runners would also help to keep them safe on the road.

“‘Think safety’ is not just a nice motto, but a reality that may save lives.”
