The body of a man found in the Hartbeespoort Dam on Monday morning has been identified as that of 42-year-old Michael Pohl.
Colonel Adele Myburgh of the North West police said Pohl was reported missing last Thursday afternoon.
“His body was found in the Hartbeespoort Dam on Monday morning around 11:00.
“According to information made available to us, Pohl was out on the water fishing on Thursday evening when his family saw him disappear underneath the water,” said Myburgh.
Earlier Craig Lambinon of National Sea Rescue Institute said they were informed of the disappearance by the family on Thursday and conducted the search alongside the local police.
The team found his capsized canoe filled with water, apparently after getting caught in fishing nets about 100m from shore where his family had last seen him.
