East organisation receives R10 000 in donations
Loubser said the motorbike club also donated food, clothing, arts and crafts.
A Pretoria welfare organisation has welcomed the recent help it received from a local motorcycle club.
Kungwini, which takes care of people with severe and profound disabilities, received a R10 000 donation from the Pretoria Steelwings Harley-Davidson motorcycle club.
Speaking to Rekord, Kungwini marketing and fundraiser manager Manuela Loubser said that the organisation cared for 160 adults with disabilities and relied on donations to help them.
“The organisation only receives 55% of its budget from the department of health; hence, for the other 45%, we need to rely on donations in kind and other monetary donations.
Loubser said organisations that assist the poor are needed because people are losing their jobs, not earning enough to pay off their debt and struggling because of the extremely high cost of living.
“We have 23 non-payer residents whose families cannot pay for their monthly boarding and lodging fees of almost R3 000 per month.

“Other residents no longer have families who can support them. We also need funds for maintenance to keep uplifting the organisation.
“We cannot do what we would like to as we cannot put those 23 non-payers out on the street, we need to find ways to cover their fees.
“We need corporate companies or donors who can sponsor these non-payers.
“We received boerewors, rolls, cool drinks, ice cream and cake from the club.
“They made up packets for each resident consisting of a black beanie, different colour buffer, lip-ice, and a packet of biscuits.
Loubser said the charity event was hosted every year but due to Covid-19, the last one was three years ago.
Michelle Willemse, of the motorcycle club, said the club has a long history of supporting the organisation with annual charity events since 2014.
“We bring joy to the residents and give them the opportunity to ride on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Pretoria Steelwings Harley-Davidson is a non-profit organisation with approximately 48 members.
