Municipal workers fix blocked sewer
‘We currently have a backlog on sewer blockages and it has resulted in service delivery delays.’
Two families in Mamelodi East extension 6 can now breathe fresh air after Tshwane metro workers unblocked the sewer that was flooding their yards.
Last Friday they accused the metro of dragging its feet after they reported the blocked sewer.
They claimed that they first reported the blockage flooding the neighbour’s yard and Mohwelere Street on Friday morning. They had noticed it the day before.
Metro spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo said the complaint was prioritised when it was received and resolved on July 27.
“We currently have a backlog on sewer blockages and this has resulted in service delivery delays,” said Mashigo.
“The metro apologises for the inconvenience.”
Resident Morongwa Moloya confirmed that the problem had been resolved and was happy that both yards are now clean.
She said the metro workers arrived on Wednesday afternoon to unblock the sewer and doused the yard with a chemical to kill the germs.
“The situation was getting out of hand and sewerage almost damaged my brick walls,” she said.
Moloya said her dogs were now safe and she was able to open her windows and doors again for fresh air.
“The small children playing in the streets are safe. This is the service delivery that we want as the community of Mamelodi.”
The tenants next door were also now able to use their outside toilet.
