Three injured in crossfire as robbers target Pta North cellphone shop

Three persons were injured in the crossfire between robbers and police when a cellphone store was robbed in Pretoria North this week.

One of the injured persons was an alleged robber who was arrested and taken to hospital.

“Three robbers entered a cellphone shop in Gerrit Maritz Street on Wednesday evening around 18:00 pretending to be customers,” said police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe.

“One of them pulled out a firearm and ordered staff to put cellphones into bags.”

A swift response by SAPS resulted in the arrest.

Two suspects, however, managed to flee using a white Toyota Corolla.

The third suspect was shot and injured, but hijacked a Toyota Venture and drove away.

“Police managed to recover the hijacked vehicle, unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

The suspect, aged 49, was taken to hospital under police guard.
