Central police host campaign to address social ills

The aim of the campaign is to address gender-based violence, drug and substance abuse, HIV/Aids and other social ills.

The Pretoria central police station and the Yeast City Housing organisation hosted a door-to-door campaign to address the social ills experienced across the Tshwane metro.

The aim of the campaign is to educate and inform communities about the various issues affecting society.

Police spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise said a number of pamphlets were handed out to communities providing necessary information and educating the communities about HIV/Aids.

“Together with social workers, we visited the community of Salvokop to speak to them about domestic violence, sexual offences, drug abuse, effects of alcohol and the negative impact of crime,” said Nkhumise.

“A testing station was also erected where everyone could come and test for high blood pressure, HIV and other chronic diseases.”

Nkhumise said the counsellors were also present to provide counselling to those who may need it.

“This will be a continuous effort to ensure that the community is reached and educated about social issues affecting the modern society,” he added.
