‘Taps will only run dry if reservoirs go empty’ – Utility MMC
Residents are urged to use water sparingly to avoid running the reservoirs out.
“Taps will only run dry if the water in the reservoir networks runs out,” said MMC for utilities and regional operations Daryl Johnston.
“The shutdown does not necessarily mean that residents will be out of water for 53 hours,” he added.
This is as Rand Water implemented a planned 53-hour shutdown of water in Tshwane to complete the connection of the newly installed pipeline.
The shutdown is expected to end on Saturday, August 13, at 22:00.
Speaking to Rekord, Johnston said residents should avoid bulking up water as this may cause the water in the reservoirs to run out quicker.
Johnson urged residents to use water sparingly during this time so that water can be maintained in the reservoir network.
“It is currently difficult to tell if the reservoirs will go empty,” he said.
“It is, however, dependent on the use of water across the metro.”
He said Rand Water confirmed that they are making good progress with the connection.
Rand Water could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
