Man in hospital following gunshot to the leg

The man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg after his firearm discharged by mistake.

A 29-year-old security guard is in hospital after he sustained a gunshot wound to his upper left leg on Thursday evening.

Best care Emergency Medical Services operations manager Ingo Muller said the man was on duty when his firearm went off by mistake.

Muller said the circumstances that led to the firearm discharging are currently not clear.

He said Best Care paramedics treated the man on the scene before we was flown to a specialist hospital by HALO Aviation.

“We suspect that the gunshot left the 29-year-old with a crushed femur,” he said.

“His leg was compromised, so we needed to fly him to hospital as soon as possible.”
