The Daspoort tunnel in the west of Pretoria will be closed for five hours for maintenance on Saturday.
In a statement, the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) urged motorists to use other routes as the tunnel will be closed for maintenance from 09h00 until 15h00.
“Tshwane Metro Police officers will be deployed to monitor the closure of the tunnel,” the statement read.
There have been several accidents in the tunnel in the past months. One was a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two young men in May. In July, a light motor vehicle caught fire inside the tunnel in unknown circumstances.

The TMPD advised motorists to use alternative routes such as:
– Eskia Mphahlele Drive
– Van Der Hoff Road
– R80/Mabopane Highway
– Mansfield Avenue
– Vom Hagen Street.
